TOILET COMPARTMENTS: Part 2: Products

2.01 - MANUFACTURERS

A. Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by the following or approved equal.

2.02 - MATERIALS

A. General: Provide materials that have been selected for surface flatness and smoothness. Exposed surfaces that exhibit pitting, seams, roller marks, stains, discoloration, telegraphing, or other imperfections on finished units are unacceptable.

B. Select one of the following design series (panel material):

  1. High Pressure Laminate – Quick Ship Series (Sunlight Series as manufactured by Atlanta Sunbelt Products). The laminate shall be minimum vertical grade, vg30, conforming to the latest NEMA standards. Color selected from the manufacturer’s standard color for this design series. Core material shall be 3-ply industrial, A grade 45 pound density particle board. All faces and edges shall be bonded to the core with approved adhesives: providing a minimum Type II bond. All faces to be bonded with a no added formaldehyde crosslinking polyvinyl acetate adhesive meeting these requirements. Panels and doors shall be 7/8” thick – pilasters shall be 1 1/4” thick.
  2. High Pressure Laminate–Made To Order Series (Sunburst Series as manufactured by Atlanta Sunbelt Products). The laminate shall be minimum general purpose grade, .050” thick, meeting to the latest NEMA standards. Color to be selected from the manufacturer’s standard range of colors. Core material shall be 3-ply industrial, A grade 45 pound density particle board. All exposed faces and edges shall be covered with plastic laminate bonded to the core with approved adhesives. All faces and edges shall be bonded to the core with adhesives that provide a minimum Type II bond. Faces are to be applied with a no added formaldehyde crosslinking polyvinyl acetate adhesive. Edges are to be applied with a thermo setting hotmelt providing high heat and cold resistance.
  3. Solid Phenolic Core (Eclipse Series as manufactured by Atlanta Sunbelt Products). All material shall be solid phenolic made of phenolic resin papers thermally fused under high heat and pressure. The colored face sheets to be applied during the same process to ensure a solid one piece plastic sheet. Color selected from manufacturer’s standard charts for this product. Solid phenolic shall provide a minimum high Class B fire rating. All edges shall be polished black. Panels are 1/2” thick – pilasters and doors shall be 3/4” thick. (Class A rating available)
  4. Solid Plastic HDPE (Nova Series as manufactured by Atlanta Sunbelt Products) All material will be solid polymer HDPE plastic thermally formed to make a solid sheet with homogeneous color throughout. All edges will be machined with an edge radius of .125” along edges. Color to be selected from manufacturers standard chart. For NOVA Series, all material (panels, doors, and pilasters) shall be 1” thick. Standard door hardware shall be aluminum with heavy duty wrap around hinges with latch and keeper. Coat hook and door pull shall be cast stainless steel. All wall brackets will be heavy duty continuous type (other brackets are available upon request). Pilaster shoes shall be 4” high minimum and polished to a # 304 finish. Aluminum anti grip head rail is standard with all overhead braced materials. Optional heat sink strip available on request at an additional cost.

C. Pilaster shoes: Type 304 stainless steel – minimum 3” high, 22 gage.

D. Brackets

  1. Sunlight & Sunburst - Standard for High Pressure Laminate to be chrome plated non ferrous cast zinc alloy (ZAMAC).
  2. Eclipse - Standard for solid phenolic core to be Type 304 stainless steel polished satin finish.
  3. Nova - Standard for solid polymer to be heavy duty continuous anodized aluminum.

E. Hardware and Accessories: Manufacturer’s – standard design as follows:

  1. Sunlight & Sunburst - High Pressure Laminate – cut out inset type door hardware. Chrome plated non ferrous cast zinc alloy (ZAMAC).
  2. Eclipse - Solid phenolic core – surface mounted door hardware. Type 304 stainless steel satin finish.
  3. Nova - Solid polymer-Heavy Duty wrap around aluminum hinges.

F. Overhead Bracing: Manufacturer’s standard continuous extruded aluminum – headrail with anti grip profile. Standard finish.

G. Anchorages and Fasteners. Manufacturer’s standard exposed fasteners – of stainless steel, chrome plated steel, or brass. Finished to match hardware with theft resistant heads as specified. Concealed fasteners to have rust resistant protective coating.

2.03 FABRICATION

A. General: Provide standard doors, panels, screens and pilasters fabricated for compartment system.

B. Plastic laminate compartment and screens: Pressure laminate face sheets to core without seams or joints in face or core. Laminate under controlled manufacturing conditions.

C. Solid phenolic core face sheets to be applied during core production to ensure one piece construction. All edges to be polished black.

D. Doors: Unless otherwise indicated, provide 24 inch wide inswing doors for standard compartments and 34 inch wide outswing doors with a minimum 32” clear opening for handicap accessible compartments.

  1. Hinges: Manufacturer’s standard self closing type that can be adjusted to hold door open at any angle up to 90 degrees.
  2. Latch and keeper: Standard surface mounted latch with door strike and keeper provide units that comply with handicap accessibility codes.
  3. Coat Hook: Manufacturer’s standard double coat hook for outswing doors. Combination double hook and bumper for inswing doors.
  4. Door wall bumper: Manufacturer’s standard rubber tipped bumper for outswing doors.
  5. Door pull: Manufacturer’s standard door pull that complies with handicap accessibility codes.

E. Construction Types:

  1. Overhead Braced or Floor To Ceiling: Provide manufacturer’s standard corrosion resistant supports, leveling bolts and anchorages. Provide shoes at all pilasters to conceal anchorages.
  2. Ceiling Hung or Floor Mounted: Provide anchorage devices for mounting pilasters complete with threaded rod, nuts, washers, channel plate, and shoes.

2.04 FINISH
